Selecting A Caterer
Before choosing your reception site and/or caterer it is a good idea to meet with a few different providers and review their quotes. The cheapest isn’t always the best route and sometimes it turns out not to be the most affordable after all!
As with all vendors for your wedding ask to see photos of their work, if it is a restaurant try the food. References are always great too.
Your reception site may come with a caterer or may hire an ‘outside’ caterer to provide the food. The following are some questions to ask:
- What styles of service are available: plate service or buffet? (Ask to see the menu options)
- Will appetizers be available?
- How will dessert be served and what are the options?
- Will there be a separate coffee, tea and water station or will they be served at the table or the bar?
- Will there be a late night offering after the party has started and the dancing is under way?
- Will special diets or requests be accommodated?
- Is there a separate menu and\or cost for children?
- Will the dishes be included int he menu price? Bar glasses? Water glasses?
- Who set up the tables?
- Are table linens & napkins included? Can they match your wedding colours?
- Is table skirting available in the set up?
- How much of a deposit is required to hold a date?
- When is the balance due?
- Is the gratuity per person or up to you?
- What is the refund policy in case of cancellation?
